​Shanelle Maxwell-Amayigha started in children's residential care in 2011, as a support worker. She became a senior support worker, then a deputy manager, then a registered manager and has held dual registration, running two homes at once, which Ofsted rarely agrees to.

​

Shanelle is a Regulation 44 independent visitor who goes into residential children's homes each month speaking with children, reading the records, and writing the report the provider, and eventually Ofsted, will read.

So she has sat on both sides of the table, and knows what a good home looks like from the doorway. It is rarely the one with the tidiest files. It is the one where the manager can tell you, without looking anything up, what changed for a particular child this month and why.

And when a home does come unstuck, the finding is almost never a surprise to the people working in it. Somebody usually knew, and nobody said.

Someone should say it before Ofsted does.

Aniya Consultancy was built to be the one who says. We work with providers preparing to register their first home, with established homes that want an honest read on where they stand, and with local authorities commissioning independent quality assurance.

We tell you early, and we are specific: not "strengthen your recording", but which record, for which child, what it should say, and by when. The work is shaped around your home rather than a template, because two homes with the same policies can be very different places to live. And the person who visits is the person who writes the report, so nothing is lost in between.

Shanelle holds a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care and is a Designated Safeguarding Lead, with a certificate in counselling skills, which matters more than it sounds when you are the person a child decides to talk to.
